When I was a little girl my dad used to fly kite with me and I loved it. I had a kite shaped as an eagle and whenever the wind was really strong, it would look as if the bird was flapping its wings high above my head. For a 6 year-old this was magic. Kids today are so spoiled by high definition videogames and robot toys, that kites probably dont interest them much. Although I too love videogames and robot toys, I still get a kick out of the good oldfashioned fabric-on-a-string toy. -The kite.
As faith will have it, I have a boyfriend who actually (sometimes) listen to what I say...so he remembered my childhood story about the eagle kite and went out and bought me a new one. Not an eagle, but a diamond kite with an awesome tail that made it even more fun to fly! So thats what we did a couple of weeks ago. Flew our kite.
If I have kids some day, Im going to show them the old generation toys. We cant let this very simple but fun activity be forgotten. Go home to your parents and find your old kite and take it to your nearest park the next time its windy. Its an order.

I used to fly kites too! I was the happiest kid :D What a fun and simple game... I love your post and photos, Linn. Hugs, Sara
Ummm,
Have you seen my kids Video game collection? Have you seen an electronic item anywhere in their posession? they dont even have Cable TV the poor kids.
They do everything the old way. They go to Grandmas house to use the Computer because we dont have one.
They both own a Kite and have for years. I bought them both a cool one. They fly Rockets, they Hike and collect Fossils, can identify more types of rocks than any kid around. They can identify just about any animal in the wild and know where to find them. Most of them they can tell you they have seen in the wild.
Of course you already knew all this didnt you.
I want them to live the real life before the electronics take over.
The Beatnik-kids ARE special...No doubt. But thats because the Beatnik is unique.
This is great info to know.
