Killing the myth of Trolls

This post is mostly for my friends Tess and Ava. -Fellow true believers of Trolls.

You see...I went hiking about a month ago, on my birthday to be exact, with my somewhat crazy and brave sister. This girl doesnt have much fear, and as it turned out, she knew of something I had never seen before...

After an hour of something that can only be described as hiking-torture, we arrived at the top of one of the mountains surrounding the city we live in. Slightly annoyed by the birthday present my sister was offering me; this sweaty and hard hike on an unusually hot April day, we decided to take a break on the top.

I really dont know who those guys are...they sorta just sat down right in front of us...but the picture gives you an idea of how far up we actually got.

Anyway, after about half an hour of rest, Tina (that would be my sister) told me it was time to move on. She told me there was something specific she wanted to show me, but I would have to promise to be quiet...Exhausted yet curious I followed her lead which took us even further up some hills into a forest area. At this point I had gotten some of my strength back and was yakking along about everything and nothing. I really didnt notice how quiet my sister was, until she stopped and shushed me. - Indicating with her hand that I had to be quiet...very quiet. I looked at her as if she was one of those annoying old ladies at the library, but couldnt help noticing the seriousness of her facial expression. She was dead serious. So I closed my mouth...even held my breath a little.

From then on we walked in silence for about 5 minutes until Tina stopped again and gestured with her hand towards a shadowed area on our right. She whispered: "Look...they're sleeping".

I turned my head slowly, just quick enough to notice something moving in the right corner of my eye. My jaws dropped. I just couldn’t believe it. Just as my childhood faith was letting go…when my adult, boring reason was taking over, I was once again faced with what I knew was true as a child; My sister had taken me to a hidden nest of trolls in the forest.

Never in my life had I seen trolls this close up and I was terrified of waking them. Everyone knows that trolls are petrified of humans. If a troll sees you it will run as fast as it can in the opposite direction. Only problem is…if that happens during the day, the sunlight will turn them into stone. And I did not want a solidified troll child on my conscience. I knew that if I made enough noise they would lift up the moss they were sleeping under to check it out…and if they saw me, they would get scared and run. So I held my breath and took a couple of pictures just to document this amazing discovery.

I still cant believe it…looking at these pictures. What a birthday present!

I may be getting older in body, but the child is still in me.
