Côte d'azur

Will and I had a little "lets-run-away-from-every-responsibility-in-the-middle-of-the-semester"-trip to Nice in mid-April this spring. What a way to spend ones birthday!

On top of a hill in the middle of the city was a castle from the middle ages. Not much of the original building was left, but it was still pretty cool.

The hill also contained an insane cemetery. The tombstones weren't exactly like we're used to at home. Statues, small houses even, surrounded by gardens. Pretty amazing. Ofcourse after I took this picture I saw the huge poster behind me telling me not to take any photos...Dumb tourist.

After having walked for about a day to the museum of Matisse, just to find that it was closed for the season, we found a beautiful garden outside a monastery.

We also spent a day in Monaco, checking out the luxury yachts and beautiful cars of the nation.

Albert, the Prince of Monaco is living large...although not as large as I expected...

All in all the trip was a wonderful break from all the rush at home. It seems to be impossible not to enjoy the friendly attitude of the people and the charming streets of a city thats not quite French, not quite Italian...just Nice.

Although not everyone in Nice seems to be happy...
