Côte d'azur

Will and I had a little "lets-run-away-from-every-responsibility-in-the-middle-of-the-semester"-trip to Nice in mid-April this spring. What a way to spend ones birthday!

On top of a hill in the middle of the city was a castle from the middle ages. Not much of the original building was left, but it was still pretty cool.

The hill also contained an insane cemetery. The tombstones weren't exactly like we're used to at home. Statues, small houses even, surrounded by gardens. Pretty amazing. Ofcourse after I took this picture I saw the huge poster behind me telling me not to take any photos...Dumb tourist.

After having walked for about a day to the museum of Matisse, just to find that it was closed for the season, we found a beautiful garden outside a monastery.

We also spent a day in Monaco, checking out the luxury yachts and beautiful cars of the nation.

Albert, the Prince of Monaco is living large...although not as large as I expected...

All in all the trip was a wonderful break from all the rush at home. It seems to be impossible not to enjoy the friendly attitude of the people and the charming streets of a city thats not quite French, not quite Italian...just Nice.

Although not everyone in Nice seems to be happy...

Cinderella's carriage turned into a pumpkin...

...Norwegians turn into drunk Norwegians after midnight. But since its New Years Eve, I figure its allowed. And since said eve only occurs once a year, I figure its ok to post the pictures.

My friend Linn and I, testing out the "self portrait" function on my camera. My lack of ability to do two things at once (press a button and look photogenic) explains my rather constipated look.

Linn and Ørjan enjoying a shot of Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (or something similar...)

Ørjan and Karl Inge; the respective judges of The New Years Eve Beer Testing Panel (also called TNYEBTP)

My friend Gro Annette and I (well past midnight...)

Gro Annette's guy Erik (right) and his buddy....Christian? Christoffer...?...Nice guy.

Linn and Ørjan demonstrating Norwegian Folk dance...(yes it was late).

While most people were focused on the Folk Dance, others were practicing their lap dancing skills.

Linn and a nice guy whos name escapes me...Although i do somehow get the urge to call him Kurt Nilsen...

Erik (with beer), a Swedish girl with a very difficult name she kept repeating at a high speed (either that or my mind was slow due to high internal alcohol levels) and Christian/Christoffer/Christer (pick the one you like best) enjoying fresh air and quite possibly the fireworks.
